Two Hearts Devotion
In 2012, to “kick off” the Two Hearts Devotion here at St Pius X, Bishop David Ricken celebrated Mass and consecrated the Parish to the Two Hearts. All who were in attendance, prayed consecration prayers that were approved by Pope St. Pius X, thereby consecrating their families to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. All families then received a packet which included a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, a pamphlet explaining devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the promises of the devotion, and daily prayers to say individually and as a family.
The Two Hearts Devotion is a way to bring Jesus and Mary into our everyday lives. We bring Jesus and Mary into our homes by enthroning a picture of them and showing our devotion to them. By enthroning the picture in our homes, we restore the family with Christ as the center of the family and center of our lives. With the Two Hearts Devotion, we gather in prayer both individually and as a family by praying the Morning Offering Prayer and the Renewal of the Consecration of the Family prayer each night. By praying as a family, we are teaching our children, and ourselves, about faith, trust and hope in God.
Why devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary? What is it about the Hearts? The Heart of a person is their most intimate part of their being. All their joys, sorrows, works, are all a part of their hearts. By having a devotion to their hearts, you are stating that you want to have an intimate relationship with them. You want to learn from them so that you may know how to live a more Christian life. When we say we want to get to the heart of the matter, we mean that we want to get to the deepest level. That is what devotion to the Two Hearts is – a deep relationship with Jesus and Mary, and trusting in their Divine help for all your needs and your family’s needs.
Bishop Ricken still wishes this Devotion to continue and to spread. Small pictures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary and copies of the prayers can be found in both Narthexes. I encourage you to enthrone a picture of the Two Hearts in your home and pray the daily prayers. God will see your devotion and shower your families with blessings.
We invite all of you to embrace this beautiful tradition that will bring Jesus and Mary back into our homes and lives to help to restore our families and to make God the center of our lives, thus restoring right relationship with the Father. May our Diocese, parishes and homes be greatly blessed through the Two Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
